Amazon layoffs: Nearly 40% cut targets engineers— company's steepest cut in 31 years


Amazon is cutting approximately 14,000 corporate jobs, with nearly 40% of those in New York, California, New Jersey, and Washington being engineering roles, disproportionately affecting mid-level software engineers. CEO Andy Jassy cited cultural shifts and a desire for leaner operations as the primary drivers, not financial or AI pressures, though AI efficiency is expected to shrink headcount in the future.
