US-EU trade deal talks: Trump sees ‘50/50 chance’ as August 1 tariff deadline nears


US President Trump stated a “50/50 chance” of securing a trade agreement with the EU to lower import tariffs, with an August 1 deadline looming. While the EU approved a $109 billion retaliatory package, Trump threatened 30% tariffs on EU exports if no deal is signed. Negotiations with Canada have stalled, and a 35% tariff is possible.
